Buyer's Club

The 189 Club, Inc. has been a proud member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo buyers club for Art, Swine, Lamb & Goat, Steer, and Poultry since 1994. Every year, The HLSR hosts auctions to reward young Texas 4-H and FFA students for their hard work year-round with scholarship money from the bids.

Calf Scramble

Jim Irby was on The Calf Scramble committee at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, so in his memory, The 189 Club makes sure to buy a calf every year for a student to catch. The student who makes the catch, The Houston Rodeo gives them a $1,750 certificate to purchase a beef heifer or market steer to show at the following year's auction, where The 189 Club can then bid to buy it from them in exchange for scholarship money.

Fundraising Events

To support the youth in education, we rely on several fundraising events throughout the year where the community can get involved and contribute funds for student projects. The first event of every year is our annual shrimp boil and auction.
